Mark Driscoll’s words in Jesus’s mouth

I’m not sure how the brilliant Tea Party Jesus escaped my notice until now, but this image sending up Mark Driscoll’s comments on cage fighting is freaking hilarious.

  1. That’s good.

For more lolz, check out the NRP take down (pun only half-heartedly intended) of Christian MMA. http://www.npr.org/templates/player/mediaPlayer.html?action=1&t=1&islist=false&id=123433584&m=123433575

  2. I love it! Also, crikey, but those folks in the picture look Scandinavian!

  3. I am trying to create a Facebook support group for parents, families, and friends of loved ones that have fallen victim and been brainwashed by Mars Hill Church. My daughter is one of what I am sadly sure are many beautiful, free thinking young people that have drank the Kool-Aid that Mark Driscoll is selling as the Word of God. I have been to the church many times so I have seen for myself that it is very seducing, but aren’t all cults and their leaders? When we think we have taught our children everything to go out into the world and be safe there they are ready to grab those young adults that are fresh out of school trying to find a place to fit in and create an adult life for themselves! They are convinced to marry young and have children to grow the membership! Driscoll is a salesman SELLING Jesus. Planting churches and having babies! In a recent sermon he said they needed to raise 15 million dollars next year. The more you give the higher up in heaven you will go! Really? Isn’t that what Scientology believes? This is not Christian to convince members to turn their backs on those in need. I have heard one member even say, “oh, well us Chrisians are hypocrites.” WHAT! Is that a pass to be liars and cheats? Well, My daughter is very young, in a new marriage and already pregnant. She is completely submissive to her husband. He has isolated from her family and friends. This is the first step in domestic abuse. If you or anyone you know are in the same boat please contact me so we can help each other and those we love that are being used and abused by Mark Driscoll and his gang.

    • If you make this FaceBook group, I would love to hear about it. My sister was baptised at Mars Hill last month, and my mother listens to Driscoll’s podcasts and thinks he’s great. I don’t understand this at all! I could definitely use some support.

Also, do you have a link for Driscoll’s comment about donations and levels of heaven? I’m keeping track of links to his more outrageous statements and articles about him and his church in this post on my LiveJournal.

In the meantime, stay strong and remember that when people are young, they try on many hats while trying to find themselves. I know a husband and child are a hell of a hat, but your daughter is young, and the future may yet hold many surprises. Not least when the inevitable scandal erupts and the church which is so based on the personality of one man comes crashing down around his ears.

    • Wow, that is really stomach-turning and appalling. Frankly I don’t care so much that he says he sees things than about the almost titillating and prideful way he talks about abuse and most especially the HORRIBLE way he claims he handles this “knowledge” that people are being/have been abused. Setting aside the implausibility of such visions – if he really does tell people to confront the people who’ve abused them without warning, or confront men who abuse their wives without warning, that is INCREDIBLY dangerous. Wow.

      Thanks for the links.

I wonder what Driscoll would have thought of Gladiatorial Games.

“I don’t think there’s anything purer than two guys with swords in an arena, no help, no lanistae…”

    • Two thoughts a) he’s talking out of his ass like he usually does and/or b) he really thinks that in that situation he would come out on top, despite the fact that he’s a privileged rich dude who doesn’t have to fight for anything, oh, ever.
